Perez earns endorsements from PORAC and other state and local public safety leaders

COACHELLA, CA – Assemblymember V. Manuel Perez (D-Coachella) announced today that his reelection campaign has picked up key support from state and local law enforcement, reporting endorsements from:

Peace Officers Research Association of California (PORAC)
California Association of Highway Patrolmen
Stan Sniff, Sheriff, Riverside County
Pat Williams, Chief of Police, Desert Hot Springs

Collectively, these organizations and leaders represent thousands of rank-and-file and other law enforcement officials throughout the state and region. They now join the Calexico Police Officers Association, which endorsed Assemblymember Perez' re-election campaign earlier in the year.

"We're proud to support Manuel Perez in his re-election campaign for Assembly," said Ron Cottingham, President of PORAC. "Manuel has shown a unique understanding of public safety issues, as well as a deep commitment to helping those who risk their lives protecting our communities. We look forward to continuing our work with him for another term."

Since taking office in 2008, Assemblymember Perez has made public safety one of his top priorities. Staying in regular contact with local law enforcement in both Riverside and Imperial counties, Assemblymember Perez has hosted numerous roundtable discussions around pressing law enforcement issues, and forged new partnerships with community groups to work on youth violence prevention. Assemblymember Perez carried legislation to fix a loophole in the legal definition of body armor, which now allows District Attorneys to more successfully prosecute violent felons while avoiding costly retrials and time-consuming appeals.

Perez receives endorsements from both Republicans and Democrats on the Desert Hot Springs City Council

COACHELLA, CA – Assemblymember V. Manuel Perez (D-Coachella) continues to pick up bipartisan support in his re-election campaign, announcing today that he has received endorsements from both Republicans and Democrats on the Desert Hot Springs City Council:

City of Desert Hot Springs
Yvonne Parks, Mayor
Karl Baker, Councilmember
Jan Pye, Councilmember

In announcing their support, leaders cited Perez' exemplary work in helping to secure more resources for cities in the 80th Assembly District.

"Manuel has done more for the City of Desert Hot Springs than any other Assemblymember since I've been here, and that's been over 20 years," said Councilmember Baker.

Added Councilmember Pye, "I'm endorsing Assemblymember Perez because of the attention and benefits he has afforded Desert Hot Springs."

As Chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development and the Economy, Assemblymember Perez has fought hard to secure needed resources for cities in his district. He organized a bipartisan team of local and state stakeholders to support the approval of a clean, natural gas power plant near Desert Hot Springs to bring in $900 million in needed investments and create 350 short and long term jobs - not to mention promote more energy reliability in our region. He wrote the bill that enabled our state to access $7 billion in federal stimulus economic recovery bonds to help local governments attract business and create jobs. And he helped our local governments to secure significant federal stimulus funding for regional infrastructure projects, such as the I-10 Interchanges and the Brawley Bypass.
